A tunnel shaped invisible "barrier" is created, leaving an interior "safety zone" for Rover, Daisy or Rin Tin Tin to play within. The electronic pet fence is designed to create a low-impact, easy-to-install and effective pet containment system to keep your dogs safe but space-constrained.

3. Collar Receiver Units. A light weight weather resistant collar is the "messenger" part of the underground dog fence system, where the "action" and training occurs. A simple receiver technology, the underground pet fence collar and controller transmitter can be calibrated or powered up or powered down, in order increase the radius of the "beware don't enter" zone along the perimeter line. After training, dogs quickly learn that the "beep beep beep" sound radiating form their collar means "stay away"...or receive a low voltage shock from the collar's pins, which butt up onto the dog's neck. Don't worry, there's no physical harm or impairment caused by the "corrective" shock, rather your dog experiences a startling sensation which effectively trains, and reminds her where the boundary line exists.

4. And Your Dog. No underground pet fence would be complete without a dog or two to complete the system. Training is gentle, lasting only 10 minutes or so on several sessions, with your dog on a leash, wearing the collar...listening for the tell-tale "beeps" near the line of warning flags inserted into the ground, acting as a visual cue. Gentle walking, coaxing your dog with words of encouragement, leading her gently towards the barrier until the rapid "beeping" followed by a short corrective shock occur. No surprise that mentally nimble situation-solving dogs quick deduce the "meaning" of this newly installed underground do fence, and quickly learn to stay within the "safe zone".

Bedrooms are used for far more than simply sleeping. They provide places to read, work out using exercise equipment, watch TV, or spend time relaxing alone or with your partner. Before I came online, I had a dream of a great wide world were I could learn about all of the things that ever struck my fancy.

One of my favorite all-around learning sites is: How Stuff Works. Just pick a topic, and chances are that they will teach you all that you would ever want to know on that topic.

Being a science and an astronomy buff, I thought seriously about buying a telescope this Christmas "for my kids" /wink/ and to introduce them to the stars while they were still young. I have been long in thought on this subject.

So, a few weekends back, I went to the How Stuff Works site to learn about telescopes so that I would know what kind of telescope I should buy.

I learned enough about telescopes to know that I should not make a purchasing decision in a day. I learned that to get the telescope I really wanted, I might really need to open my wallet real wide.

What is the chance that I could have gone to a store to learn what I needed to learn to make a good buying decision on telescopes? Zip. Zero. Nada.

The really good news is that I can continue to go to see the awesome pictures from the Hubble Telescope at the NASA website: hubble.nasa.gov/index.php

So, the kids did not get a telescope this year. Maybe they will get one next year.

All is good though. They got really sweet gifts anyway. At the Fisher-Price website, we chose the electric-powered Cadillac Escalade.

Now, it is time to find something for my wife.

And then, I begin the long and frustrating search. What do you get a woman who has everything she wants?

I know... There is no such thing as "a woman who has everything she wants." So, what do you buy a woman who won't tell you what she wants?

After a search for ideas late into the night one evening, I leaned back in my chair and it hit me. Hanging on the wall above my desk is a caricature that we had made for us when we were on our honeymoon. She loves that thing and shows it off anytime someone new comes to visit.

My big head in that caricature almost seems to be an accurate representation of my personality.

Of course, the internet offers me a possibility of getting a caricature done on the sly, so that my wife's Christmas present can still be a surprise to her.

I can send family photographs to the caricature artist, and we do not have to sit for a lengthy amount of time while an artist works his magic.

And in not having to sit while the artist works, we can avoid the stress that both my wife and I experienced our first time around.

I did mention that our first caricature was done while we were on our honeymoon. We took our honeymoon in Las Vegas, and we stayed at the Stratosphere Hotel for seven days. It was on our first trip to the top of the Stratosphere, and while we were 110 stories up, the fire alarms in the tower went off!

After having spent 30 minutes waiting in vain for an elevator to the ground floor, we decided to make the best of our time on high. Of course, we could have taken to the staircase, but that was a 110-flight escape route! And, we did not even know if there was really a fire or whether some jerk thought he was being funny and set the thing off for kicks.

We took a walk around, and then I spotted the caricature artist. I approached him to ask if we should be worried about the alarm going off. He indicated that it was not uncommon, and that he was not the least concerned. So, I stopped being concerned myself, so long as I did not see any other reason to be concerned.

So, the young man took to talking me into having our caricature done. I really had no interest in such a thing, but I did have some time to kill. I was actually a hard sell, but he stuck to it. He finally offered me a deal to sit, since his prospects were pretty slim at that moment. After all, there was my wife and I, and the other two-dozen people stuck at the 110th floor in a mild state of concern. And, there were not any new people coming upstairs of any kind, since the elevators seemed to not be running at all.

So, we took a sit and had our own caricature done on our honeymoon trip. I think he nailed me perfectly. And, I thought he missed my wife by a mile, but please don't tell her I said so. She liked it, which is what is really important.

For those in the learning mood, the first written history of "caricature" was made available in a series of articles that ran from February to December of 1875 in Harper's Monthly magazine. Archived copies of those articles can be read online here: boondocksnet.com/cartoons/cartoons_parton75.html The author of this series was James Parton. He was known in his day as one of the pioneers of political caricature, and he was a respected scholar in this field.

In the first article, the author points out that a lot of early graffiti was a form of caricature. In specific, he pointed to an example of ancient graffiti found in the excavated ruins of Pompeii, Italy, which was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79.

It was only in the past century that people began to commission caricatures of friends and family as gifts and to locate caricature artists at many tourist destinations. The internet has allowed the Average Joe to locate a caricature artist without having to travel to the artist.

After shopping around, I decided on Give A Special Gift. Let me tell you why.

If you're considering adding funeral webcasting as another service to your clients and their families, you probably want to know what equipment you'll need. It's a surprisingly short list.

In order to begin broadcasting funeral services over the web, or webcasting, you'll need to install a ceiling-mounted camera that will let you tilt it, pan the room and zoom in on specific areas. Since it will be connected to your desktop or laptop computer, it should allow you to control it with your computer mouse. The camera must also adjust to varying lighting, including natural and artificial light.

A video decoder connects the live feed from your camera to your computer and converts the images so that they can display on your monitor. In essence, it creates a network between the camera and the computer. A USB decoder device, which you plug into your computer, receives the signals from the video decoder. This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and heavy guage steel. The arms extend over 20-Inch from the wall yet fold to less than 5-Inch. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 165lbs and most displays 55-Inch and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has dual tilt adjustment knobs and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. The wall plate is 19-Inch wide and has wide slots making it easy to mount into standard 16-Inch studs even if they are not exactly 16-Inch apart. Thus, the arms may be visible on the sides of 32-Inch units. The universal design will fit any display with a hole pattern up to 26.3-Inch wide and 18-Inch tall. The wall plate is 1/8-Inch thick and very stable and includes a large center hole for cable pass-though into the wall. This mount will swivel approximately 150 degrees depending on the size of your display. Dual TV locking screws are included to prevent accidental liftoff of the display. Flat Panel TV Mount Guide

Did you just buy a new Plasma, LCD, or Flat Panel TV? Are you wondering how to hang the TV correctly? Where should I place the TV? Do you mount it to a wall or above the fireplace? LCD and Plasma TVs can be mounted in a variety of places depending on the size of the room and the room dynamics. We have divided our guide into the various rooms you may consider placing your TV. We also consider some questions you may have when mounting your plasma or lcd. Mounting a TV should be left to a professional installer or an electrician. You'll need to take into account the placement of av equipment and the proper set up for your audio and video cables. Tip: Most electrical contractors can perform basic wiring for power and av equipment.

Universal Mounts vs. Custom Mounts

Ceiling Mounts Tv

It's recommended that you buy a custom mount, if a model is available, for your Plasma or LCD. Why a custom mount? It's guaranteed to fit the TV whereas universal mounts only fit 90% of the time. The custom option also makes the side and back of the TV less cluttered than a universal mount.

Consider the Studs

Plasma and LCD screens are heavy you need to make sure you have wall studs or a ceiling joist if you plan to hang the TV from the ceiling. If you have normal (16" spacing) wood studs most mounts will work properly. If however, you have 24" spacing you will need to look at mounts that have a lateral shift adjustment. Hardware kits are available or included for installations involving wood studs, metal, cinder blocks, and solid concrete.

Family Room, Bedroom, or Basement

Most LCD or Plasma TVs are mounted in a family room for recreational viewing. In this case screen sizes are normally 37" or above. Where do you want to mount the flat panel tv?
Above the Fireplace Mounting the TV above a fireplace is a good option for utilizing space in your family room. However, we would only recommend this option if you are able to sit at least 10 feet away from the TV. You should consider buying a "tilt mount", this enables you to adjust/tilt the TV to the best viewing angle. In a Corner In today's homes many family rooms are filled with windows and have limited wall space. In this case, we recommend mounting the TV in a corner of the room and use a swing arm mount to adjust the viewing angle. You can then mount the TV at a custom viewing height and swivel the TV to the best viewing position. On Opposing Wall In this case you can use a static mount or tilt mount. If you plan on mounting the TV higher than eye level then you should use a 'tilt mount' so you can adjust the viewing angle. If you plan to mount the TV at eye level, than you can use a 'static mount'. You could simulate the mounted tv by using string or masking tape on the wall and then decide which plasma or lcd mount to use. Table Top Mount If you don't have enough wall space, corner space, or a fireplace you would consider using table top mount. Many consumer Plasma's and LCD's come with a table top mount. Table top mounts are placed on top of home entertainment furniture and provide a basic mounting option. Most commercial plasma's do not include a table top mount, in this case you will need to buy a table top mount and a piece of furniture to place the plasma or LCD. Home Theater Entertainment Centers Do to the high demand of the flat panel tv market, most entertainment centers now have an optional back panel to mount a plasma or LCD tv. Remember if you mount your plasma on a wall you'll need to store your AV equipment somewhere and if you don't have a nearby storage cabinet you may need to use audio video furniture. If you are hiding your av equipment be sure to have a way of sending ir remote commands to the equipment. You can accomplish this by using an rf remote or using an extender kit.
Smaller Rooms, The Kitchen, The Exercise Room, A Den
The Kitchen The kitchen is most likely for screen sizes smaller than 20 inches. The most common mount for kitchen applications is a mount that attaches to the bottom of a cabinet. An under the cabinet mount is a great space saver, because it allows for you to flip the TV up and out of the way when it is not in use. Exercise Room or Den The exercise area or Den is good place for LCD or Plasma TV, and we recommend a tilted wall mount or an articulating mount. This is all based on the room size and placement of exercise equipment or furniture in your room.
Commercial Applications

The most common commercial applications involve a ceiling mount that can be lowered into the proper viewing height with extension columns. Buying a ceiling mount takes some thought based on the space, the drop of the mount, and a joist to connect to. We offer a variety of mounting accessories that allow for specific applications. Many restaurants and bars use plasma screens because of the wide viewing angle and brightness. In this case, a mixture of ceiling, corner, wall, and articulating mounts may need to be used.
